Bodhi and River have had a blast visiting Matlock Farm Park over the last year. They are animal lovers, and the park has not disappointed in the variety of farm animals and exotic creatures they have encountered. They always make sure to purchase a bag of animal food so that they can feed the animals, which is always a highlight of their visit.
Animal Handling sessions
The animal handling sessions for bunnies, guinea pigs, chicks, and tortoises have been a great experience for them. However, their favourite animals to visit are the meerkats. They find it so much fun to feed them and watch them scurry around.
Play areas
The indoor play barn and soft play area have kept them occupied in all weather conditions, and they have enjoyed exploring the different themes. The adventure playground has been great for Bodhi, who is turning five in March as she has loved balancing on the beams, climbing the rope bridges, and zooming down the big slide.
River, who has just turned two years old, spent most of his time jumping on the UK’s largest Jumping Pillow, weather permitting. She has also had his share of fun at the tots’ area, which has been designed with her age group in mind. He has enjoyed climbing on the wooden pirate ship and sliding down the slides.
Pony rides
When we visited during the school holidays, Bodhi got the chance to go on a short pony ride. She enjoyed the experience so much that she asked me if she could go for riding lessons.
Riding School
The riding school at Matlock Farm Park offers lessons for all ages and abilities, so I’ve decided to have a lesson. We are both looking forward to it. The riding school recommends that you wear boots or shoes with small heels, gloves, and a waterproof coat. They provide hats, but it’s recommended to purchase your own hat and jodhpurs if you become a regular rider. Leggings are also suitable for riding.
The recommended minimum age for riding lessons is 4 years old, while the short pony rides are available to children as young as 3 years old (or 2.5 years with a parent/carer walking alongside).
Where to eat?
When we needed a break, we stopped by the Garden Room Café to indulge in delicious snacks and locally sourced-produce. We also made sure to check out the Rainforest Coffee Shop, where they purchased high-quality drinks, bakery treats, and hot pastries.
Additional information
Matlock Farm Park facilities include a free car park, toilet facilities, and riding opportunities for groups with special needs.
Conclusion
Overall, Bodhi and River have thoroughly enjoyed visiting Matlock Farm Park over the last year. There has always been something for them to do, rain or shine, and they have always had so much fun. They have already asked us if they can go back soon and especially in Spring to feed the lambs. Matlock Farm Park is truly a great place for families and Bodhi and River can’t wait to go back.
